Settings

To search for a settings menu you want to access in Settings, see the following steps.

Useful info

For information about the difference between main and sub devices, see Using the same LINE account on more than one device.

On your main device (typically your smartphone)

1. From the Home tab, tap

.
2. In the search field at the top of the screen, enter the name of the settings menu you want to search for.
3. Tap the settings menu you want to open that appears below the search field.

On your sub device (typically your tablet)

iPad

1. Tap Settings.
2. In the search field at the top of the screen, enter the name of the settings menu you want to search for.
3. Tap the settings menu you want to open that appears below the search field.

Android

1. From the Home tab, tap

.
2. In the search field at the top of the screen, enter the name of the settings menu you want to search for.
3. Tap the settings menu you want to open that appears below the search field.

When you enter one letter in the search field, all of the settings menus that include it in their names will appear. (For example, you can enter the letter "M" to bring up the My Stickers settings menu.)

The settings menus that you tap are automatically saved, and you can bring them up again just by tapping the search field.

If you don't want your search history to be saved automatically, tap Disable search auto-save under Recent searches > OK.

You can also delete the settings menus you've searched for and accessed by tapping the X icon

icon next to each setting or Clear all.

Important: The feature to change the LINE app icon is only available in Japan and Thailand.

If an issue occurs with LINE shortcuts after changing the LINE app icon, check the information below that matches your situation.

If LINE shortcuts were deleted:

When you change the LINE app icon, LINE shortcuts you had been using may be deleted on some Android devices.

If LINE shortcuts don't work:

When you change the LINE app icon, LINE shortcuts may not work properly on some Android devices. Please delete any existing shortcuts, then set them again.

If you changed the LINE app icon but LINE shortcut icons weren't changed:

When you change the LINE app icon, LINE shortcut icons may not be changed on some Android devices.

Note: The LINE app icon (not shortcuts) shows the applied LINE app icon.

Please delete any existing shortcuts, then set them again.

Be advised

You can use this feature with the latest version of LINE. (Update LINE to the latest version.) We plan to update LINE app icons regularly, so be sure to keep LINE up to date if you want to use the ones we add.

To set/change the LINE app icon, see the following steps.

1. From the Home tab, tap Settings

> App icon.
2. Select your desired app icon.
3. Tap Apply.

On your sub device (primarily a tablet)

iPad

2. Select your desired app icon.
3. Tap Apply.

Android

1. Tap the Home tab > Settings

> App icon.
2. Select your desired app icon.
3. Tap Apply.

Note: On Android, the splash screen shown when you start the app will also match the app icon you set.

LYP Premium (Japan)/LINE Premium (Thailand) members can also use the app icons included in the Member exclusive Premium icon

section.
Note: On iPhone/iPad, if you go to Settings > App icon and turn on Auto-apply event icons, event icons will be automatically applied when they become available.

Important: The feature to set/change fonts in the LINE app is only available in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand.

To set or change the font in the LINE app (including your chats), please refer to the following information.

Useful info

- Changing the font in LINE will not affect the font settings or appearance in your friends' LINE apps.
- Your device's font settings may be applied to LINE even if you change the font in LINE.

Turning on the Passcode lock setting in LINE will prompt you for a numerical passcode or biometric authentication every time you open the LINE app.

To set, change, or remove a passcode, see the following sections.

Be advised

If you forget your LINE passcode, you will need to delete the LINE app and reinstall it. When you delete and reinstall the LINE app, all of your chat history that hasn't been backed up will be deleted, so be sure not to forget your passcode.

Setting a passcode lock

1. Tap the Home tab > Settings

> Privacy.
2. Turn ON Passcode lock.
3. Enter the passcode you want to set twice.

If you don't want to use biometric authentication to unlock the LINE app, turn off Use Face ID to unlock/Use biometrics to unlock.
Note: If biometric authentication isn't set on your device beforehand, the menu to unlock with biometric authentication will not appear.

Changing your passcode lock

1. Tap the Home tab > Settings

> Privacy.
2. On Android: Tap Change passcode and enter your current passcode.
On iOS: Tap Change passcode.
3. Enter your new passcode twice.

Removing your passcode lock

1. Tap the Home tab > Settings

> Privacy.
2. Turn OFF Passcode lock.

If you turned on Use Face ID to unlock/Use biometrics to unlock, but it was removed (i.e. turned off), try the following:
• Change your passcode
• Turn on Passcode lock again after turning it off
Note: It's OK to use the same passcode.

To change the language setting on the LINE app, see the following steps.

iPhone/iPad

1. Go to your device's Settings > Apps > LINE.
2. Tap Language, and then set the one you want to use.

Android

1. Tap the Home tab > Settings

> Language.
2. Tap the language you want to use then Save.

Everything displayed in the LINE app will prioritize the language you selected.
Note: Changing the language setting for the LINE app will not affect your device's language settings.

Multi view lets you display multiple screens of an app at once on larger devices.

To use LINE with multi view, you need to:

• Update LINE to the latest version.

• Use a tablet running Android 12L later (or Android 13 or later for Samsung tablets).

• Enable multi view on your device.

Note:

- To do so, go to your device's Settings and tap Display > Screen layout and zoom, then select Multi view.

- The names in your settings and the order of these steps may differ depending on your device.

If you don't want to use LINE with multi view, set your device to Standard view.

Note: If you set your device to Standard view, it will be applied to all apps, and not just LINE.

Also, keep in mind that LINE will exit multi view if you fold your device shut or have LINE open on a tablet in pop-up view or in split-screen with another app.

Chat folders let you organize your chats into different categories.

You can use the default folders that are available or create your own folders on LINE for Windows or Mac.

Default folders:
These folders automatically categorize your chats into one of the folders listed below.
Note: A folder may not appear if you don't have any chats to go in it.

• All: Shows all of your chats
• Friends: Shows 1-on-1 chats with your friends
• Groups: Shows your group chats
• OpenChats: Shows all of your OpenChats
Note: OpenChat is only available in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand.
• AI: Shows your chats with AI services
• Official accounts: Shows official account chats

Enabling/disabling chat folders:
1. Click Settings icon

at the bottom of the main menu > Settings.
2. Click Chats.
3. Under Chat folder, uncheck the box next to Enable chat folders to turn the feature OFF, or check it to turn the feature ON.

Be advised

Turning this feature off will reset all of your folder settings.

[Windows/Mac] Adding and organizing chat folders:
In addition to the default folders, you can create your own folders and organize your chats for any purpose (e.g. based on family, work, friends).

To add and organize chat folders, see the following sections.

Creating new folders

1. Click the edit icon to the right of your available chat folders.
2. Click plus icon

.
3. Enter a folder name, select the chats you want to add to the chat folder, and click Add.
4. Click X icon

.

Note: You can create up to 10 new chat folders.

Renaming folders

Note:
- Default folders (e.g. All, Friends, Groups, AI, Official accounts, OpenChats) cannot be renamed.
- OpenChat is only available in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand.

1. Right-click the tab of the chat folder you want to rename.
2. Click Change folder name.
3. Enter a new folder name.

Reordering folders

1. Click the edit icon to the right of your available chat folders.
2. Click and hold a folder, then drag and drop it to your preferred location.

Adding chats to folders

Note:
- Chats cannot be manually added to default folders (e.g. All, Friends, Groups, AI, Official accounts, OpenChats).
- OpenChat is only available in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand.

1. Right-click the tab of the chat folder that you want to add a chat to.
2. Click Add chat.
3. Select the chat you want to add to the chat folder and click Add.

Note: You can add up to 100 chats to a chat folder.

Moving chats from default folders to folders you created

To move a chat to another chat folder, use one of the following methods.

• Select the chat you want to move, then drag and drop it in your preferred chat folder.
• Right-click the chat that you want to move, click Move to, then select your preferred chat folder.
Note:
- Chats cannot be moved between default folders (e.g. All, Friends, Groups, AI, Official accounts, OpenChats).
- OpenChat is only available in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand.

Moving chats from folders you created to default folders

1. Right-click the tab of the chat folder that has the chat you want to move.
2. Click Remove chat.
3. Select the chat you want to move and click Remove.

Deleting folders

Note:
- Default folders (e.g. All, Friends, Groups, AI, Official accounts, OpenChats) can't be deleted.
- OpenChat is only available in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand.

1. Right-click the chat folder you want to delete.
2. Click Delete folder > Delete.

Note: Any chats that are in a chat folder when it's deleted will automatically be moved to your default folders.
